The Temple at Ashizurimisaki

This temple was located on the cape which is the southern most point on the island of Shikoku. These pictures were taken the end of last September. This temple was very strange and seemed out of place to me. It looked much newer than most the temples I've seen. Maybe because it's on the southern coast and gets damaged/destroyed by typhoons a lot? I don't know, just a guess. Anyway the oni guarding the gate looked so new and kinda cheap. This temple was really disappointing because it just looked way too new.
I liked the turtles though. Isn't he cute? I think it's a Korean thing though. Strange that it would be here.

Above: A statue of a pilgrim. We actually saw lots of people walking around dressed like this. This is how you dress when you try to visit all the temples on the island.
Above: The turtle is pooping! haha

These Strange rocks looked like they'd been put there yesterday. It just all looked too new. The building below looked freshly constructed. The wood looked so new.

Okay at least these guys look somewhat old.

I loved this feature on the incense pot. That little oni looks like he's doing so much work!

Above: Markian climbing up the path around the lotus pond that was full of mosquitos!

Above: Incense burning.
Below: Cool detail on the really new looking roof.

Yeah, so not much more to say other than it was kinda a weird culmination of things and nothing really seemed to appear like it had been there for that long.
