Cicadas

These things were EVERYWHERE this summer! They are SO loud! I don't see how a bug can make that loud of a noise even though they are HUGE bugs. This was the first one I actually located that wasn't dead. It was so loud and we followed the sound until Markian found it in the tree. When you got close to it was ridiculously loud. I think it got a little pissy that I got so close to it. They're kinda gross and cool looking at the same time, but when one flys in your face it's seriously scary. This one was found in Kyoto while walking the philosopher's path. They've been gone for about a month now. Night time, especially in the park is much, much quieter. Apparently these thing come out of the ground, mate, and die. They have short life spans which vary by the variety of cicada.
